Forensic Science Week 2024

Forensic practitioners and researchers provide critical contributions in advancing scientific practices to administer justice. Through research and development projects on topics like drug analysis, evidence collection, DNA, and identification, let’s inspire innovation and collaboration to strengthen forensic science.

Forensic Science Grad Research Symposium

To celebrate National Forensic Science Week, join us for the 2024 virtual Forensic Science Grad Research Symposium on September 19, hosted by our Forensic Technology Center of Excellence. Topics include computational methods for identification, topic exposure of hair, investigating fingerprints with machine learning, and audio deepfake detection.

Alternative Traffic Enforcement Strategies and Research Opportunities

Alternative traffic enforcement is an emerging crime and justice issue prompted by documented disparities and dangers associated with traffic stops that impact public and law enforcement safety. A new NIJ article explores the research around reforms and alternatives to police-involved traffic enforcement, findings from existing program evaluations, and opportunities for future research.

Term of the Month — Forensic Science Service Providers

Forensic science service providers conduct forensic testing for criminal investigations and include public and private crime labs, death investigators, academics, and consultants. These providers help solve crimes, identify perpetrators, and ensure the integrity of the evidence presented in legal proceedings.
